Today I took a trip up to Dublin to meet fellow Education in Ireland Ambassadors and see what it's like to experience a typical Irish summer. While not every Irish kid partakes in each of these activities, we could at least experience the most Irish day we'd ever encounter.
We traveled to Causey Farms in Navan, County Meath to bake brown bread just like ma makes it, pet and be pooped on my farm animals, and jump into a hole of peat.
Irish brown bread is best made by the people who have enjoyed it all their lives, as we were not very good with bread ingredient chemistry.
Where to begin with the animals, the farm was leaping with baby pups, calf’s, and lambs. Additional to the ducks, pigs, lama, and camel. A safe sanctuary for animals who have been saved from the circus and farm animals to keep the sheepdog busy at work. If anyone who knows me knows I had to be peeled away from the animals, first one into the barn and last one out.
It is confirmed, baby lambs weigh less and poop on people more than puppies, but they are very soft if anyone was wondering. Puppies nibble on fingers no matter what country they are born in. Witnessing a calf that was recently born, and when I say recently born, it was minutes before we looked and being accepted by its mother is probably the cutest moment in a cow’s life. Unquestionably something I will remember forever. Can't forget Gloria the pig that takes selfies when you feed her.
Short break into the Irish culture activities learning to dance a jig to traditional music. Evidently, a moment I shined with my two left feet and offbeat moves.
Aside from the amazing animals on the farm, there is a luxurious tractor ride to bring you within walking distance of a preserved Irish bog. First rule being, do not jump feet first or else you will need to work harder to get out. What do I do, forget the rule and jump like a pencil dive where if I were going to jump into a pool, I would have received a score of 8/10 for form! Meanwhile, jumping into a bog with that score meant more struggle to get out! Check out the video of me jumping in with a fellow ambassador that is from Brazil and witness my struggle.
To top off the lovely Irish day, I was lucky enough to be on the same train as Gaelic soccer fans making their way back from Dublin. The lovely fans sang every Irish song they could think of. Concluding my living as an Irish day experience in the best way possible, even if I did not know any of the songs!
Can't wait for the next adventure!
