Budgeting Groceries to Save for Travel

Writer's picture: K MK M

Studying abroad is continuously changing my life, I have now learned how to go to the grocery store on a budget and eat healthily or with my sweet tooth healthy (ish). Setting a budget is a major adulting thing while living on your own. Being a 20 (something) year old and having to decide between eating or traveling does not have to be an issue if you create a budget.

Irish grocery stores have almost everything Canadian grocery stores have. Setting a budget sounds easy, but it's not always easy to stick to therefore leave some wiggle room. Shopping around between grocery stores such as Tesco, Dunnes, Lidl and Aldi you are bound to find the best deals and delicious eats.

Ireland might not be the largest island, but there is so much to go and explore. Setting a food budget makes it surprisingly easy to have extra cash to travel. Plus traveling to and from many Irish cities is cheap and easy.

You might be thinking what does food have to do with travel? But food is regularly the hardest budget to follow because grocery stores make it clear they want you to make impulse purchases and spend more thinking you will save more. If you make a list before you go to the store and stick to the list, it's more manageable to save those extra pennies to go towards your extensive travel itinerary.

There are many ways to get around Ireland, one of which is buses. Bus companies such as Bus Eireann have deals for students to save money on almost any ticket. Many options of times and dates to travel make it extremely easy to go for the day or weekend to your city of choice.

With saving money on groceries and bus fares your travel dream can become a reality.
